Noel targeting victory against Luton

Pompey brought 2016 to an end by losing just one of their last eight fourth tier fixtures.

However, they still sit seven points off the automatic promotion places at the halfway point of the campaign.

Noel Hunt made his first two league appearances in the festive fixtures against Newport and Yeovil, which saw the Blues collect four points.

But the striker is not looking at the gap between themselves and the top three – he is only focused on facing Luton at Fratton Park tomorrow.

Hunt said: “We know it’s going to be tough and I’m sure they’ll fancy their chances against us.

“But it’s all about what we do and making sure that our recovery is spot on after the match at Yeovil.

“We’ve got to keep applying pressure on ourselves as a team to make sure we pick up three points on Monday – that’s our only focus.

“We’re just looking to get the finer details right in the final third, but our spirit, passion and belief is only getting stronger.

“It’s been a while since I last started a couple of games in succession, but the more I play, the stronger I feel. If I can get a run of matches together then I believe I’ll get better and better.”

Pompey played out a goalless draw at Yeovil last Friday, with the match taking place amidst a sea of dense fog.

Hunt said: “It was an interesting game – and a bit of a guessing game. We didn’t know who had the ball at times.

“At one point I thought it would be called off as I couldn’t see what was happening from the halfway line.

“The boys stuck together well on a difficult night and restricted Yeovil to very few chances. I thought we controlled the match.”
