Former Blues striker passes away

Pompey are mourning the death of former striker Jimmy White.

He sadly passed away in a Cambridgeshire hospice earlier this week at the age of 75.

White netted six goals in 31 appearances for the Blues after Freddie Cox signed him from Bournemouth in 1958.

He became the youngest player to appear for the club when he featured in a 1-1 first division draw with Birmingham at Fratton Park.

The centre-forward marked the occasion in style with a superb header past opposition keeper Gil Merrick.

White left for Gillingham in 1963 and was converted into a centre-half, later having spells back at Bournemouth and with Cambridge.

Everyone at Portsmouth Football Club would like to send their condolences to Jimmy’s family and friends.
