Midfielder happy with Bognor test
It was not as dominant a victory as Pompey have enjoyed in previous pre-season encounters.
But Danny Rose was pleased that Bognor gave the Blues their biggest test of the summer so far.
New signing Brett Pitman netted a goal at either end of the game to give them a 2-0 victory at Nyewood Lane.
Bognor were not over-awed, however, and had enough of the ball to allow Rose and his team-mates to work on their pressing.
The midfielder said: “We have to give them credit because we were out of possession for times in the second half.
"We’ve been working on our pressing in training and we expect that will be tested when we play Bournemouth."
“We’ve worked on dealing with that in training and you need moments like that because you don’t want it to be too easy.
“Pressing is something we’ve looked at and we expect that will be tested when we play Bournemouth next week.
“It’s important that you focus on that as much as what you do when you’ve got the ball. That’s something that the gaffer has been stressing.
“There were a few chances for our opponents, so it’s nice that we managed to get another clean sheet.
“The back four defended really well when they had to and the keeper made a great save when it was only 1-0.
“It was a difficult pitch to play on with the grass quite long, but overall it was a good workout for us.”
Jackett did not make any substitutions, but Rose does not believe that means his place in the side is assured.
He said: “The team’s been quite settled in our weekend games, although there’s still time for guys to play themselves into – and out of – the side.
“But it was nice to get the 90 minutes under our belts and we had a clean bill of health.”
