Blues Back In Training

Pompey getting in shape for the new season

The first day of pre-season training is normally accompanied by warm and sunny conditions.

That was not the case this year, however, with cloud covering Pompey's Copnor training base.

Meanwhile, an unseasonable chill in the air and drops of rain hardly helped set the scene.

But the weather failed to dampen the spirit among the returning Blues players, who were joined by recent arrival Nathan Thompson.

New manager Kenny Jackett certainly made plenty of friends by deciding against 'beasting' his squad.

A quick lap around the new academy training pitches – being used for the first time – was enough to brush away the cobwebs before the footballs came out.

But that does not mean the players were not worked hard.

There were plenty of energetic passing routines to work up a sweat before the players broke off into two groups to take part in some small-sided games.

It is all designed to get Pompey in tip-top shape ahead of August's League One opener against Rochdale, with the first friendly at Salisbury just a couple of days away.

The cricket season might still be in full swing, but the Blues are back and raring to go.
