Thompson: There's A Feel-Good Factor

22 June 2017

Defender can't wait to get started at Pompey

Nathan Thompson is thrilled to be part of a Pompey side that are on the up.

The versatile defender has become the first signing of the Kenny Jackett era after leaving Swindon to sign a two-year deal.

And he has arrived at a club still basking in last season’s League Two title triumph.

Now Thompson is eager to get stuck into life at Fratton Park as Pompey prepare for the 2017/18 campaign.

He said: “It’s fantastic to join Portsmouth – the size of the club and what they’ve achieved in the past is a huge attraction.

“I signed for Swindon at the age of 12, so it’s a strange feeling to leave, but coming here is amazing and I’m looking forward to the new campaign.

“There’s a real feel-good factor around the place after what happened last season and it’s exciting to be a part of that.

“With the fan-base we’ve got, this club should be in the Championship or Premier League.

“The season ticket sales have gone past 10,000, so I’m looking forward to walking out at Fratton Park on August 5.

“I had a couple of other options, but when I looked at the team, the management and the crowd, I saw a club that was moving in the right direction.”

"The size of the club and what they’ve achieved in the past is a huge attraction."

Thompson can play across the back-line and even in midfield, but is happy to fill in wherever he is needed.

He said: “I grew up playing at right-back, but am always willing to help the team out and that meant moving into the centre of a three or a two.

“I felt that I adapted to that position and coped quite well, so I’ll take to wherever the manager wants me to play this season.”
