COOK: LET’S ENJOY THAT

11 March 2017

Boss delighted with Colchester win

After working so hard to get into the top three, Pompey need to make sure that they stay there.

And they passed the latest with flying colours as Colchester were ruthlessly despatched 4-0 on their own patch.

Eoin Doyle opened the scoring before the break, with Kyle Bennett, Danny Rose and Michael Doyle ensuring that the goals flowed after it.

And Paul Cook was delighted that his players produced such a positive performance in Essex.

The Blues boss said: “We’ve had a smashing day and with 10 games to go, we’ve just got to keep believing in what we’re doing.

“When we play like that I enjoy watching us. We had good players out on the pitch and a strong bench, and we deserve some credit.

“Colchester have had a horrific run with injuries, but they’re still a decent side and have got one of the best home records in the league, so we’ve done well to beat them.

“We’re all in this together and we’ve had a really positive day – and you have to enjoy days like those.

“The lads have shown remarkable character and the group are really coming together, which is massive for us.

“We’re desperate to win for our fans and we owe it to them now to give them a performance at Fratton Park like we’ve shown on the road.”

Cook was pleased that Eoin Doyle was able to find the net after going five games without scoring.

He said: “Eoin’s a fantastic kid and if every footballer had his attitude then they would be the better for it. The goal will do him the world of good.”
