Striker hungry for more games
Nicke Kabamba enjoyed his first taste of senior football for Pompey.
But it left the January signing from non-league Hampton & Richmond hungry for even more opportunities.
The striker came off the bench for the final 25 minutes of the Blues’ 3-0 defeat at Stevenage last Saturday.
And while that was not exactly the outcome Kabamba was looking for, it was still a moment to remember.
He said: “I’ve been waiting for my opportunity since signing and the chance to fulfil my dream.
“It was a brilliant feeling to be out on the pitch and finally get my first match for Pompey, although obviously the result wasn’t what we wanted.
“But it was a personal achievement for me and now I can look forward to being involved in a better game.
“I want to get some more minutes under my belt and help the club get to where they need to be – in a higher league.
“I’m still waiting for my first goal for the first team as well, so I’ve got a lot of things to look forward to.
“But it’s all about taking baby steps – I’ve made my debut, then I want to score and then hopefully that will kick-start things.”
With Pompey hosting Newport at Fratton Park this weekend, Kabamba could realise another dream – his home debut.
He said: “I came out to do the warm-up after signing and it was amazing – the atmosphere was beyond belief.
“I’ve come from playing in front of a couple of hundred people, so to see that many people is brilliant.”
