Defender wins top prize
Enda Stevens has won The News/Sports Mail Player of the Season award.
He was presented with the trophy by Pompey journalist Jordan Cross before the final game of the 2016/17 campaign against Cheltenham.
The left-back was selected by readers of our local newspapers after consistently impressing in his 45 appearances this term.
He beat defender Christian Burgess into second place, while top scorer Kal Naismith finished third in the vote.
Stevens follows in the footsteps of players like Alan Knight, Mark Hateley, Noel Blake, Paul Walsh, Alan McLoughlin, Peter Crouch, Linvoy Primus, David James and – last year’s winner – Michael Doyle.
But it was Naismith who walked away with the biggest haul of awards, picking up Player of the Season trophies from six different supporters’ groups.
He was honoured by the Northern Blues, Chichester, South West, South Wales, USA and his fellow Scots from Clan Pompey.
Stevens was also named the star man by Isle of Wight and Scandinavian supporters, however, while London and the Central Branch both chose Burgess.
