It is a fairly modest achievement when compared to Pompey’s rich FA Cup history.
But Christian Burgess is hoping they can at least emulate their run to the fourth round in the 2015/16 campaign.
They saw off Macclesfield and Accrington, then knocked out Championship side Ipswich before the adventure eventually ended at the hands of top-flight Bournemouth.
However, the Blues must win at League Two high-fliers Luton this weekend if they want to experience more cup magic.
Burgess said: “I love the FA Cup and we want to do as well as we can in the competition, so I’m looking forward to playing Luton.
"Everybody playing at this level of the game wants to go through and draw a really big team later on."
“We went on a really good run a couple of years ago when we beat Ipswich in the third round and then nearly did it against Bournemouth.
“I think everybody playing at this level of the game wants to go through and draw a really big team later on.
“So we’ll be trying our utmost to win on Saturday and it’s always a good test when you face Luton and are battling with Danny Hylton.
“All of our games against them seem to be fairly entertaining and they’re doing well again this season, as they were expected to.”
Saturday will be the first game for Burgess since he signed a two-year extension to his Pompey contract.
The centre-back said: “It’s been a rollercoaster ride here and I’ve got some great memories. This is where I’ve enjoyed my best moments in football.
“Playing in front of the crowd at Fratton Park every other week for more than two seasons is just brilliant.
“I always wanted to stay here and so I’m happy we’ve been able to dot the ‘i’s and cross the ‘t’s.
“Now it’s about trying to get better all the time and hopefully I can improve further under the gaffer here.”
