Ladies Beaten By Coventry

Home defeat for Blues in Premier League South

30 October 2017

Pompey Ladies saw their inconsistent run continue with a 2-0 defeat to Coventry at Westleigh Park.

They were the more threatening side in the opening stages, though, and Nadine Bazan saw a shot saved before Natasha Stephens had an effort blocked.

Katie James then missed a decent opportunity to open the scoring by lifting the ball over the bar after meeting a dangerous Stephens centre.

And Charley Boswell sent an inviting delivery across the face of goal, although there was nobody there to take advantage.

But the visitors grew stronger as the half progressed and Robyn Levett made a couple of key saves to ensure the sides went in level at the break.

Coventry did break the deadlock just after the restart, however, courtesy of a stunning long-range strike from Jade Brook.

They twice came close to being in an even stronger position, only for the crossbar to come to Pompey’s rescue on each occasion.

But Amber Hughes did secure their victory on 77 minutes after being left alone at the far post to convert a cross.

Pompey: Levett; Kirby (Peck 67), Southgate, Currie, Bazan (c); James (Panting 67), Sievwright, Boswell, Stephens; Hillier, Albuery (Quayle 55)
