Match Preview: Doncaster v Pompey

All you need to know about League One clash

17 October 2017

They won successive league games for the first time this season by beating MK Dons at the weekend.

But now Pompey are looking to make it three victories on the bounce when they make the long trip north to face Doncaster tonight.

Darren Ferguson’s men won both contests between the sides last term, including a televised 3-1 triumph at the Keepmoat Stadium.

It was the Blues who had the last laugh, however, as they pipped Rovers to the League Two title on the final day.

Of the four promoted teams, it is Pompey who currently occupy the highest position, sitting one point outside the play-off berths in eighth spot.

This evening’s opponents, meanwhile, are down in 18th, having won just once on home soil in the league.

But they did see off Championship outfit Hull at the Keepmoat Stadium to reach the third round of the Carabao Cup, where they were narrowly beaten at Arsenal.

Doncaster go into the game on the back of a 1-0 defeat at Charlton and while Pompey try to break into the top six, their opponents will be keen not to tumble into the relegation zone tonight.

TEAM NEWS
Conor Chaplin has recovered from a hamstring problem, but Drew Talbot has picked up a groin injury.

The visitors will also still be without Adam May (ankle), Damien McCrory (knee), Brett Pitman (knee) and Jack Whatmough (knee).

Former Fratton loanee John Marquis is suspended for Rovers, who are also missing Alfie May (hernia) and Andy Williams (thigh), while James Coppinger (calf) is a doubt.
