All you need to know about Checkatrade Trophy clash

3 October 2017

The group stage of the Checkatrade Trophy continues tonight as Pompey host Crawley in the second round of fixtures.

Kenny Jackett’s side drew 3-3 with Fulham U21s last month, but missed out on a bonus point in the resulting penalty shoot-out.

This evening’s opponents, meanwhile, have yet to get off the mark after being beaten at home by Charlton.

Red Devils fans might have other things on their mind, however, with their side struggling in 20th position in League Two.

They have won just three games so far this season, although that included matches on the road at Swindon and Barnet.

Harry Kewell’s men were beaten 1-0 by Carlisle at Broadfield Stadium on Saturday in a bad-tempered contest that saw three players dismissed.

Tonight sees just the seventh competitive meeting between the sides, although Pompey came out on top in a pre-season encounter back in July.

The Blues won both fourth tier encounters last term, with a 2-0 triumph in Sussex sparking an incredible run of form that secured the title.

TEAM NEWS
Pompey have a host of injury worries, with Christian Burgess (calf), Milan Lalkovic (Achilles), Damien McCrory (knee), Brett Pitman (nose), Nathan Thompson (head) and Jack Whatmough (knee) all sidelined.

But Conor Chaplin is available after recovering from the hamstring injury that has kept him out for the past couple of games.

Thomas Verheydt (knee) is missing for the visitors, but Josh Yorwerth can feature as his suspension does not include Checkatrade Trophy matches.
