O'Keefe Thrives On Leadership Role

Midfielder interviewed in MK Dons programme

13 October 2017

He does not even turn 27 until next year.

But Stuart O’Keefe is still one of the more experienced members of Kenny Jackett’s youthful Pompey squad.

The on-loan Cardiff midfielder was named captain for last week’s victory at Gillingham, with regular skipper Brett Pitman out injured.

But whether or not he leads the side out against MK Dons, O’Keefe is happy to pass on his wisdom to younger team-mates.

“Relatively speaking, I’m one of the older members of this group,” he says in the official matchday magazine for Saturday’s clash.

“To come in on loan to a club this size and have the gaffer give me the armband is fantastic and something I really enjoyed.

"That role of leading and encouraging is one that I’ve done before – I thrive on it."

“We’ve got a young team and I think I was brought in to provide a little bit of experience.

“That role of leading and encouraging is one that I’ve done before – I thrive on it. I’m happy to help other people and hopefully we can flourish as a team.”

To read the full interview – where O’Keefe also talks about his midfield partners, signing on deadline day and the start to his Blues career – pick up a copy of the magazine from programme sellers around Fratton Park.

Also in issue nine, Brett Pitman reveals his favourite things, while Adam May is next to take the ‘Home & Away’ quiz.

We take an in-depth look at MK Dons, while there are exclusive columns from Mark Catlin, Kenny Jackett and Pitman.

All this and much, much more in a packed 84 pages is available for just £3.
