Brett Pitman has been nominated for the Sky Bet League One September Player of the Month award.
He netted six goals in seven games during the month, including braces in victories over Fleetwood and Bristol Rovers.
The Pompey skipper’s first goal in the former left him with a broken nose, but he stayed on the pitch to add a fine curling finish.
Pitman also notched an effort from the penalty spot at AFC Wimbledon and a consolation in last Saturday’s defeat to Oldham.
He will have to fight off competition from Wigan winger Michael Jacobs, Rotherham striker Kieffer Moore and Blackburn midfielder Richard Smallwood to claim the prize.
The winner will be announced on Friday morning and is decided by a judging panel that includes Sky Sports EFL expert Don Goodman, League Managers’ Association director Olaf Dixon and Sky Bet EFL trader Mikey Mumford.
