Dandy header not enough for young Blues

Pompey Academy’s three match winning run in the Youth Alliance League was brought to an end with a 2-1 defeat by Plymouth at Home Park.

They fell behind when Jack Chandler mistimed a header from a long ball over the top and Luke Jephcott took advantage to slot home.

But the Blues drew level before the break, as Joe Dandy (pictured) rose to divert Josh Flint’s corner into the net.

It was Argyle who managed to snatch all three points, however, with Billy Craske finishing a quick counter-attack.

Lead professional development phase coach Mikey Harris said: “It was very much a game of few chances, with most of the play taking place between both boxes.

"We’ve got quality players, but we just didn’t do enough in the final third."

“We’ve got quality players, but we just didn’t do enough in the final third and ultimately paid the price for that.

“The goals we conceded were disappointing, although Joe showed plenty of desire to get on the end of Josh’s corner.

“And it was a great experience to play at Home Park – our first years wouldn’t have played at a stadium like that before.”
