Jackett: Keep The Energy High

Boss looks ahead to Fleetwood test

14 September 2017

The Fratton faithful are renowned for their passionate support.

But Kenny Jackett knows that his players have to do the business on the pitch to earn that fantastic backing.

Pompey host Fleetwood this weekend following successive games on the road that have yielded three points.

And Jackett wants them to move on from a midweek defeat at Northampton by producing a performance full of vigour.

The Blues boss said: “We’ve had some purpose and energy about us in the past two games, although obviously there was frustration with the result on Tuesday.

“The enthusiasm of the players has been really high and that’s something I want us to retain ahead of Saturday’s match.

“It’s our responsibility to accept that we didn’t get anything at Northampton and do something about it against Fleetwood.

"They want to see enthusiasm and quality football, so we’ll be looking to provide that."

“They had a good campaign last season and I fully expect them to do the same again this time around.

“It’s a club that has done really well over the past few years and I’m sure they’ll be looking to attack that top six again.

“I saw them a number of times last season and we know there will be an established League One side coming at us.

“But our focus is once again on ourselves and we have to show plenty of energy and commitment in front of another big crowd.

“We certainly don’t take that for granted and we have to make sure we produce a performance on the pitch that they can react to.

“They want to see enthusiasm and quality football, so we’ll be looking to provide that. If so, I’m sure they will drive us on.”

Oliver Hawkins could feature against Fleetwood after missing the Northampton game with a head injury.

Jackett said: “He should be okay for the weekend with a plaster or a headband to cover the cut, but we’ll have to see.

“We’ve got Jack Whatmough and Milan Lalkovic out on Saturday, but everyone else is fit and ready to go.”
