Prolific Pitman Targets Play-Offs

Skipper interviewed in Charlton programme

21 April 2018

The fact the Blues remain in the play-off hunt owes a lot to the prolific form of Brett Pitman.

Pompey’s skipper has bagged 22 League One goals so far this term – with eight of them arriving in the past seven games.

It is a scoring streak that leaves them banging on the door of the top six with just three games remaining.

And the last time Pitman found such red-hot form at the end of a campaign had a very successful outcome.

“When I was at Bournemouth I scored 10 goals in 10 games, and in eight successive matches,” he says in the official matchday magazine for today's clash with Charlton.

“That was to get automatic promotion to the Championship and I’ve never actually been in the play-offs before. It’s something I’d definitely like to experience in my career.

“I like to think that if I get chances then I’ll score goals. There was a frustrating period when the opportunities just weren’t there, but I came through that.

“I haven’t really changed anything from the start of the season and perhaps it’s just that the wingers are finding me better. Jamal has created a few for me recently – although he got lucky against Oxford!”

To read the full interview – where Pitman also discusses Pompey’s form, the role of the fans and cryotherapy – pick up a copy of the magazine from programme sellers around Fratton Park.

Also in issue 26, Nathan Thompson reveals his favourite things, while Dion Donohue takes the Home & Away quiz.

We take an in-depth look at Charlton, while there are exclusive columns from Mark Catlin, Kenny Jackett and Pitman.
