Naylor: Keep Fighting

Midfielder warns against complacency ahead of Bristol Rovers contest

21 August 2018

Pompey cannot rest on their laurels after an impressive start to the 2018/19 campaign.

That is Tom Naylor’s demand following three successive League One victories against Luton, Blackpool and Oxford.

The Blues romped to a 4-1 success against the latter on Saturday, meaning they join Peterborough as they only third tier sides with a 100 per cent record.

But Naylor knows that it is still very early days and does not want to see any complacency in the squad.

The midfielder said: “We’ve had three games in the league and won all three – but I definitely think that there’s more to come from us.

“Our display against Luton wasn’t the best and we scraped a victory, while it probably should have been more comfortable at Blackpool.

"We need to keep working hard and fight to make sure that we keep picking up those three points."

“But it was a great performance from the lads on Saturday and we could have finished with even more goals.

“We need to stay on our toes, though, and the experienced boys in the team have to show leadership.

“It’s important that we don’t get too complacent or sloppy, like we did when we were 3-0 up on Saturday.

“We need to continue working hard and fight to make sure that we keep picking up those three points whenever we can.”

Pompey will look to continue their winning record when they visit the Memorial Stadium to face Bristol Rovers this evening.

Naylor said: “I’ve only played there a couple of times before and there is normally a good atmosphere.

“But we’ve just got to keep doing what we’ve been doing, try to get an early goal and see what happens from there.”
