Community Grant To Develop Women's Walking Football

Blues to offer sessions for female participants

10 December 2018

Pompey in the Community (PitC) Walking Football have been awarded a National Lottery grant to develop the sport for women.

It means they will be one of the first teams in the country to offer sessions purely for women.

While the sport has seen a rapid growth over the past four years, there tend to be few female participants, even at the most successful clubs.

But this lottery award means that Pompey can support weekly sessions to really get women’s walking football off the ground, with female coaches from PitC.

To encourage participation:
- There is no age restriction for adult female participants
- Sessions are in the evenings to allow those who work to take part
- There is no limit to the number of touches on the ball, allowing the group to develop their skills

A regular pitch has been booked at the Goals Centre on Tangier Road (PO3 6QA) from 7-8pm on Monday evenings. Sessions are £2 a week.

Just turn up on pitch two if you wish to play (although the group meet in the café/bar about 10 minutes beforehand) or contact PitC on (023) 9272 8899.

All abilities and ages are welcome, with coaches looking to develop skills in the warm-up, prior to launching into small-sided games.

And looking to the future, a place at a women’s walking football festival has already been booked for March…
