There was more than a tinge of frustration about Pompey’s defeat to Blackburn.
The Blues were certainly not over-awed at Fratton Park, but Conor Chaplin’s header was not enough to prevent the visitors from securing a 2-1 victory.
Dion Donohue was one of the home players to impress and felt his side were unfortunate to have nothing to show for their efforts.
But he believes it was a display they can build on ahead of successive away games at Southend and Fleetwood.
Donohue said: “I felt we did enough to come away with at least a point and created more chances than our opponents.
“So it’s very disappointing that we haven’t taken anything. It was obvious that someone was going to score and it’s just unfortunate that it was them.
"The way we performed can give us a lot of confidence going into a couple of difficult away games."
“But we more than matched an extremely good Blackburn side who are sitting third in the league table.
“The way we performed can give us a lot of confidence going into a couple of difficult away games that are coming up.
“Firstly, we just have to look ahead to visiting Southend on Saturday and trying to put things right there.”
Donohue was primarily a midfielder when he joined Pompey in August, but has been used in the back four for most of his time at Fratton Park.
The 24-year-old said: “I’m pleased to be playing every week and the gaffer pulled me aside recently to say he wanted me to concentrate on left-back.
“He wanted me to get being in midfield out of my head, so I’m just working hard all the time to keep improving.
“All I want to do is play – whether that’s in defence or further forward makes no odds to me. I’m happy to be getting games.”
