It is difficult to separate fact from fiction during the January transfer window.
With the media machine in full swing, players at all levels are constantly rumoured to be moving to new clubs.
So it came as no surprise to see the in-form Matt Clarke linked with a switch away from Fratton Park.
There would have been a collective sigh of relief from fans when the deadline passed and the defender certainly did not let it sway his focus.
“That comes with playing well,” he says in the official matchday magazine for Saturday’s clash with Doncaster. “But there’s so much speculation involved in football and you don’t really know what’s true and what isn’t.
“It’s flattering to be linked with other teams because it means you’re doing a decent job, but I prefer just to focus on bringing success to this club.

“That form comes naturally with playing. The more games you get, the more experience you have and the more you improve.
“You put the work in on the training pitch and give yourself the best foundation possible to do well on a Saturday afternoon. That’s what I’ve always done since I’ve been here and that’s what I’ll continue to do.”
