Ladies Make Double Signing

Blues swoop to sign Brighton pair

23 June 2018

Pompey Ladies are delighted to announce the signings of Millie Carter and Ellie Russell, who both arrive from Brighton & Hove Albion Ladies.

Millie, 18, has quickly progressed from grassroots football, having plied her trade with Hangleton Rangers before making the step up to Sussex neighbours Lewes Women.

She has since found her feet at a higher level and ended last season as top scorer of the Seagulls’ development side.

Millie said: “I’m really excited to join Pompey. After sitting down and chatting with the manager, I felt his passion and ambition met mine.

“I’m an energetic player, who will give 100 per cent for the team. I want to continue my development here and ultimately aid the success of this fantastic club.”

Ellie, 20, has risen through Brighton’s youth ranks over her five-year stint at the club, with the centre-back having joined them as a teenager and gone on to make a single first team appearance.

She was a standout member of their development team last terms and joins the Blues in search of first team football.

Ellie said: “Portsmouth is a huge club, steeped in tradition, and I’m really excited to begin a new chapter of my career here.

“Obviously leaving Brighton was difficult. However, I’m desperate to get back out on the pitch, get the ball rolling and show everyone what I’m all about.”

"I’m delighted we can finally welcome them into the Pompey family."

Jay Sadler

Blues boss Jay Sadler added: “I’m delighted to have acquired both players. They possess great technical qualities and physical attributes, and I feel their determination and ambition to succeed will complement the current group.

“Millie is an extremely exciting and tenacious attacking player, who will add flair and creativity in the final third. Ellie is a more of an athletic and astute central defender, who’s ball manipulation and composure enables her to be the first line of attack.

“As soon as we were made aware of both players’ situation, having been schooled down the road at Brighton, we knew we had to act quickly to gain their signatures and I’m delighted we can finally welcome them into the Pompey family.”

You can see the two new signings in action when Pompey Ladies travel to face Maidstone for their first pre-season friendly on Sunday, July 15 (12pm kick-off).
