Evans Ready To Return

Winger pushing for a place against Oxford

19 March 2018

Gareth Evans is set for a Pompey return when Oxford visit the south coast on Sunday.

The winger has been sidelined for four matches since injuring his hamstring at Southend last month.

But he is now back in training and pushing for a place in the team for this weekend’s televised Fratton contest.

Defender Nathan Thompson is also available for selection again after completing a four-match suspension.

Blues boss Kenny Jackett said: “Gareth trained on Monday morning and there didn’t appear to be any problems with his hamstring.

“We’re hopeful of him being fit again by the end of the week, while Nathan is back from his long ban.

"We need all of those guys available for selection again to get the best out of the squad that we have here."

“That’s two more senior players and in the next week or two we want that to be followed up by Oli Hawkins and Stuart O’Keefe.

“They’re all good, experienced players and are, quite rightly, popular here, so it should improve our confidence having them back.

There was plenty of snowfall over Portsmouth during the weekend, but it failed to interrupt Monday’s training session.

Jackett said: “It didn’t stop us from getting out on the pitch and we’re expecting the conditions to keep improving.

“We don’t play again until Sunday and the forecast is for the weather to clear up a bit during the week.”
