All you need to know about League One clash

24 March 2018

Pompey will aim to revitalise their play-off push when they take on Oxford on Sunday afternoon.

Kenny Jackett’s side go in search of their first home victory of 2018 in a match that is being screened live on Sky Sports.

Plenty of results went the Blues’ way on Saturday and it means a win would leave them just two points outside the top six.

But they will be wary about facing a United side who might well be lifted by the appointment of Karl Robinson earlier in the week.

Derek Fazackerley had been in caretaker charge for two months following January’s dismissal of Pep Clotet.

Oxford are currently lying in 16th position and will be keen to increase the five-point gap above the League One drop zone.

They, like Pompey, go into the game on the back of a win, with Rob Dickie and James Henry on target in last Saturday’s 2-1 defeat of Peterborough.

The eight league fixtures before that, however, had resulted in just a solitary victory, while there was also a Checkatrade Trophy exit to Chelsea’s under-21s.

Pompey are searching for their first Fratton win over United since 1997 and trying to avenge a 3-0 loss at the Kassam Stadium back in August.

TEAM NEWS
Gareth Evans is available again following a hamstring injury, while Nathan Thompson has completed a four-match ban.

But the Blues are still without Oli Hawkins (hamstring), Stephen Henderson (thigh), Stuart O’Keefe (groin) and Danny Rose (leg).

Oxford trio Isaac Buckley-Ricketts (England U20), Canice Carroll (Republic of Ireland U19) and Gino van Kessel (Curacao) are all away on international duty.

The visitors will also be missing Rob Hall (knee), Curtis Nelson (Achilles) and Joe Rothwell (hamstring).
