Ladies Hit QPR For Six

Blues end season in style at Fratton Park

14 May 2018

Pompey Ladies brought the curtain down on the 2017/18 season with a 6-1 rout of QPR at a sunny Fratton Park.

The visitors hit the woodwork and saw a shot fly narrowly over in the opening stages, but the Blues soon took control.

Sammy Quayle and Rachel Panting both had chances to score before the deadlock was broken on 25 minutes.

It was skipper Charley Boswell who scored, opening her account for the club with an effort from just inside the area.

And the advantage was soon doubled, as Quayle stole possession and rounded keeper Lauren Dolbear before slotting the ball into an empty net.

Quayle then turned provider to ensure Pompey had a commanding lead at the break, with her clever pass teeing-up Daisy McLachlan to find the bottom corner.

The hosts were given the chance to add a fourth on 69 minutes when Shannon Albuery was brought down in the box and Panting stepped up to convert the penalty.

Quayle soon doubled her personal tally for the afternoon, with another cool finish after being sent through on goal.

A handball then saw Pompey awarded a second penalty and this time it was Emma-Jane May who tucked it away.

Chontele Lawrence pulled one back for QPR at the death, but that failed to spoil the enjoyment of the 397 fans watching from the Fratton End.

Blues boss Jay Sadler told the club’s official YouTube channel: “We’ve made massive progress over the course of the season.

"I’m really proud of the way that the girls handled the occasion and it was superb to watch at times."

“We performed really well against QPR, although we were better in the second half than the first, getting the ball down to play some great football.

“There were a load of opportunities and we could have scored even more, while it was disappointing that we couldn’t quite keep a clean sheet.

“But I’m really proud of the way that the girls handled the occasion and it was superb to watch at times.

“We thrived off playing in front of 400 fans at Fratton Park and it was a fantastic opportunity to play at such an arena.”

Pompey: Levett; Kirby, Southgate, Currie (Simmons 78), Peck (Geer 65); Perkins (May 85); Panting, Albuery, Boswell (c), McLachlan; Quayle
