Vacancy: Head Of Academy Recruitment

Job opportunity at Portsmouth Football Club

30 November 2018

Following a reorganisation of our academy management team, Portsmouth Football Club have a vacancy for an experienced recruiter of young elite football players.

The role is based at our training ground in Portsmouth, Hampshire and reports directly to the Academy Manager. A close working relationship with the Head of Coaching, year group and other coaching staff is key to the success of this position.

The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate considerable success in strategic planning of the recruitment of elite players gained within the professional game and have a sound knowledge of the EPPP and rules specifically pertaining to Academy environments.

Additionally, effective management of teams working remotely, strong leadership skills and a network of appropriate contacts within the professional game are essential.

The role demands a strong and efficient administrator, who possesses sound communication skills and the necessary empathy to liaise with players, coaches, parents and other relevant stakeholders.

The skills and personal qualities described should have been gained and honed in a professional football club environment.

The emphasis of the role will be on the U16s to U18s age groups in developing a database of players, highlighting possible free transfers from Category One clubs, as per the Academy’s recruitment strategy.

Necessarily, the role will require travel and the willingness to work flexibly in terms of hours of work and in a close-knit team environment. The successful candidate will be seen as a high-profile leader and, by example to players, parents, scouts and colleagues, encourage and ensure the club’s high standards are met and upheld at all times.

The club has a strong reputation as an upholder of EFL diversity and inclusion policies, and welcomes applications from BAME candidates, who are suitably qualified with a minimum of FA Talent Identification Level 2.

Our strong preference is for applicants to have several years’ experience working within an EFL Club Academy with the 13-18 age group. An Enhanced DBS check will be carried out on the successful applicant.

The Club will not consider applications via third parties. To apply, send your CV and cover letter to
markkelly@pompeyfc.co.uk no later than December 10 2018. Interviews will be held shortly afterwards in Portsmouth.
