Match Preview: Chichester v Pompey Women

Blues on the road for midweek fixture

11 September 2018

Pompey Women travel to Oaklands Park on Wednesday evening look for a response following their home defeat to Coventry at the weekend.

They will also be trying to avenge a cup loss to Chichester at the PMC Stadium at the beginning of the month.

Shannon Albuery and Sarah Eadon both found the target that day, but it was not enough to prevent a 4-2 reverse to their local rivals.

Chichester are trying to continue their unbeaten start to the Women’s National League season, having extended their run with Sunday’s victory over MK Dons.

Molly Clark struck late on to secure all three points and ensure City are currently top of the Southern Division table.

Pompey, meanwhile, are searching for a return to winning ways following back-to-back defeats.

It was a 2-1 sucker-punch defeat to Coventry, with Rachel Panting firing in a rocket for the hosts, only for two questionable refereeing decisions to prove decisive.

Last seaon’s trip to Oaklands Park was an eventful one – as games between the sides usually are – and the Blues came out on the wrong side of a 3-2 scoreline.

Sammy Quayle and Albuery both found the target in that occasion, although ultimately it was not enough.

Blues boss Jay Sadler has a fully-fit squad to choose from, with Panting returning to action at the weekend following an injury.

Bekah Tonks also made her first appearance of the campaign against the Sky Blues after rejoining the club over the summer.

Sadler said: “It's a big game on Wednesday. We know how they play, as we’ve already faced them in the League Cup this season.

“If we can take the positives from the Coventry game – especially the hunger and the drive we showed – then there’s no question we can go there and get something.”

Kick-off at Oaklands Park is 7.45pm on Wednesday. Tickets are priced £4 for adults and £1 for under 16s.
