Match Preview: Pompey Women v Watford

Blues back on home soil on Sunday

15 September 2018

Pompey Women host Watford in the National League South tomorrow looking to right some wrongs following back-to-back league defeats.

The PMC Stadium clash with Watford comes around quickly after Wednesday night’s loss on the road at Chichester

But the Blues could at least come away from Oaklands Park with their heads held high, knowing they probably should have earned at least a draw.

Daisy McLachlan found the target – her fifth goal of the season – in a game that was largely dominated by the visitors.

Sunday’s opponents have made a strong start to the campaign, winning their past four fixtures to sit third in the table – three points ahead of Pompey.

Watford’s midweek fixture saw the Golden Girls host QPRs at Kings Langley FC in front of a crowd of 132.

Linda Afuakwah gave the Hornets the lead in the opening seconds, although they needed a late goal from Wales’ all-time top scorer Helen Ward to claim all three points.

Watford have former Blues defenders Lauren Peck and Afiya Johnson in their squad, having signed both players over the summer.

See if Pompey can return to winning ways at the PMC Stadium on Sunday (2pm kick-off).

Tickets are priced £5 for adults and £2 for concessions (U18/63+). A 36-page matchday magazine is also available for just £1.
