Southgate Expecting A Battle

Blues skipper looks ahead to Watford test

14 September 2018

Amelia Southgate says Pompey are ready to come out fighting.

That was the case earlier in the week, when the Blues kept on battling in their narrow league defeat at Chichester.

And the skipper wants to see that continue when Watford visit the PMC Stadium on Sunday (2pm kick-off).

The defender said: “We’re expecting a good battle based on how they have started the season. We know they have players who can score goals – but we also know that we have that, too!”

And Soutgate backs Pompey to come out on top if they can replicate the desire on display at Chichester.

She said: “If we show the same level of passion than Wednesday, I believe we will take points off most teams in this league.”

"The atmosphere among the team is great at the moment."

Despite suffering three successive defeats, Southgate insists the vibes in the dressing room are still positive.

“The atmosphere among the team is great at the moment,” she said. “We had a really good session on Thursday and are fully prepared for a tough battle on Sunday.

“We know we were unlucky not to get something from our past few matches, but I think that has brought us all closer as a squad and has made us more determined to get the three points.

“I couldn’t fault a single player’s work-rate or passion on Wednesday evening and I expect that you will see more of the same if you come down to the PMC Stadium on Sunday!”

Pompey host third-placed Watford on Sunday. Tickets are priced £5 for adults and £2 for concessions (U18/63+).
