Brett Pitman returns to skipper the Pompey side at Rochdale this afternoon.
The striker – who netted twice at Spotland last season – replaces Oli Hawkins in one of two changes from the team that drew with Wycombe seven days ago.
A fit-again Jack Whatmough also comes back into the back-line, with Christian Burgess the player to make way.
