They took the lead midway through the first half when a cross from Jamal Lowe was headed home by Oli Hawkins.
Aaron Wilbraham reduced Dale's defict after the break, only for substitute Gareth Evans to quickly restore the two-goal advantage.
And the impressive Lowe then wrapped things up to complete a sixth successive win for the Blues and move them to within two points of Barnsley.
