Match Preview: Hampshire Cup Final

Pompey Women take on Southampton

3 April 2019

Pompey Women

Pompey Women face Southampton in the Hampshire Cup final AFC Totton's Testwood Stadium this evening.

They will be looking to build further momentum heading into the final few weeks of the season following back-to-back league victories against Chichester and Loughborough.

Rachel Panting bagged a brace against the latter on Sunday, as the eighth-placed Blues closed the gap on Plymouth directly above them to four points.

Jay Sadler’s side are aiming to lift the Hampshire Cup trophy for the eleventh season in a row – and 15th time overall.

They thrashed Southampton FC 5-0 in last year’s final at Alton, with Shannon Albuery netting a hat-trick, Daisy McLachlan adding a penalty and Panting wrapping things up.

Their opponents compete one level below in Division One South-West, but are sitting in second position, albeit nine points behind runaway leaders Keynsham.

Pompey have yet to concede in this season’s competition and have already beaten three teams from the west half of Hampshire, seeing off Eastleigh, Southampton FC and Southampton Saints.

And you can see if they can add Southampton Women to that list when the sides face off tonight (7.45pm kick-off).

Tickets can be bought on the gate and are priced £5 for adults and £2 for concessions. Under 10s are admitted for free.
