Pompey have certainly picked the right time to find some form.
They have been on a fine run since winter gave way for spring, breathing new life into a battle for automatic promotion that appeared to be a lost cause.
A run of five successive League One victories – with a Wembley triumph thrown in for good measure – leaves second spot tantalisingly within reach.
And Tom Naylor has urged his team-mates to maintain their high standards as the finish line approaches.
The midfielder said: “This run we’re on has been brilliant and it means that confidence is sky-high at the moment.
“We’re going out every week with a determination to win and want to keep playing how we have been recently.
"This run we’re on has been brilliant and it means that confidence is sky-high."
“Every team has a bad spell during the season and we’ve got our one out the way, so we need to smash these last five games.
“We’ve got attacking threats all over the pitch – you saw Gareth Evans and Omar Bogle come on at the weekend – and have to make the most of them.”
Evans was on target in Pompey’s 4-1 victory over Rochdale on Saturday, with Oli Hawkins, Brett Pitman and Jamal Lowe also scoring.
Naylor said: “They came out stronger in the second half – as we expected – and it was a bit sloppy from us to concede.
“But we reacted brilliantly to make it 3-1 pretty quickly and then went to get the fourth and make it a really pleasing result for everyone.
“Jamal’s just had a little one, so probably hasn’t got much sleep – fair play for the performance he put in. He showed how good he is.”
