Perkins: The Future's Bright

Midfielder interviewed in Oxford programme

27 April 2019

Carla Perkins has enjoyed more time out on the pitch for Pompey Women this season.

And now the midfielder is keen for the Blues to cap a positive campaign by beating Oxford in their final home game on Sunday.

She netted a hat-trick – her only goals so far this term – in a 9-0 rout of Poole in the National League Plate back in September.

And Perkins has also played a key tole in both the Hampshire Cup and Portsmouth District FA Cup triumphs.

She is interviewed in the programme for the Oxford contest, which is supporting the Football Welcomes Refugees campaign.

Perkins said: “The season as a whole has been good. Retaining the Hampshire Cup is, of course, a huge positive for us at Pompey.

“Oxford are a very good side in this league. I’m expecting them to come out strong, professional and organised, like they did a couple of weeks ago.”

"We have a squad very capable of mounting a push for promotion."

Pompey are currently sitting eighth in the standings, but can they mount a promotion challenge next season?

“Of course we can,” said Perkins. “Anything can happen in football and if we aim high and work hard, why can’t we challenge for the title?

“We have a squad very capable of mounting a push for promotion and with a few additions, we could be in for an extremely positive season.”

Also in issue 15, there is a review of the 2018/19 campaign, a giant pull-out poster and the usual round-ups from Blues boss Jay Sadler and chairman Eric Coleborn.

The packed 36-page magazine is available for £1 on the turnstiles at the PMC Stadium on Sunday (2pm kick-off).
