Close On The Hunt For More Goals

Midfielder interviewed in Coventry programme

20 August 2019

There will likely be cries of ‘Shoooot’ if Ben Close collects the ball on the edge of the Coventry box this evening.

The academy graduate has already netted stunning strikes in each of Pompey’s two previous home games this season.

Those goals helped secure victories against Birmingham in the Carabao Cup and Tranmere in League One.

And Close is hoping to increase his tally, while conceding that they will not always be so easy on the eye.

“They’re probably the two best goals I’ve scored so far – I won’t be forgetting them in a hurry,” he says in the official matchday magazine for tonight’s clash. “I was really happy with the Birmingham one, but think I topped it a few days later.

“I’ve enjoyed watching the video of the Tranmere strike plenty of times from all the different angles. It was great to see it hit the back of the net.

"I think I’ve got a good shout for ‘Goal of the Season’, but it’s still very early days, so we’ll have to see!"

“I’m looking to add even more in the weeks and months ahead, although they certainly won’t all be as nice as that one.

“I think I’ve got a good shout for ‘Goal of the Season’, but it’s still very early days, so we’ll have to see!”

Also in issue three, Anton Walkes reveals his bests and worsts, while Lee Brown selects his dinner party guests.

We take an extensive look at Coventry, while there are exclusive columns from Mark Catlin, Kenny Jackett, Brett Pitman and Ian Darke.

All this and much, much more can be found in a packed 84 pages, with the programme priced just £3.
