Pompey head to Sunderland at the weekend on the back of successive victories.
And Ronan Curtis is looking to make it three wins in a row against a side they have got to know extremely well.
There were five clashes between the teams last term – including a two-legged play-off and the EFL Trophy final at Wembley.
Now Curtis hopes triumphs over Birmingham in the Carabao Cup and Tranmere in the league on Saturday can give them the boost they need.
The Republic of Ireland international said: “We knew what we had to do to bounce back from the previous Saturday at Shrewsbury and that’s two clean sheets in a row now.
“Hopefully we can keep the winning run going and see how far we can go – we want to keep picking up three points.
“We played against Sunderland on quite a few occasions last season and certainly know what they’re capable of.
“But we also know just what we’re capable of and the plan for us is to go there and get another victory.

“I’m enjoying my football at the moment. I’ve been in this league for a year now and thought I did well last season, so hopefully this one will bring even more.”
Curtis savoured the opportunity to meet Hollywood star Will Ferrell, who was a guest of Pompey’s owners for the Tranmere game.
He said: “The guy’s a great actor and a really funny bloke, so it was nice that we got the chance to meet him.
“We had a chat with him and he said he enjoyed the game and hoped that he could come over more often.”
