Pompey have been drawn at home to south coast rivals Southampton in the third round of the Carabao Cup.
The tie will be played at Fratton Park in the week commencing September 23.
It will be the first south coast derby to take place since the sides were both in the Championship during the 2011/12 campaign.
Both matches were drawn that season, including the famous 2-2 draw at St Mary's, when David Norris grabbed a spectacular late leveller.
Pompey are unbeaten in the past four meetings between the teams, with two memorable 4-1 triumphs in that time.
It was the club from the west side of the M27 that came out on top in the only previous EFL Cup clash, however, which took place in 2003.
Kenny Jackett's men have already seen off higher ranked opposition in the form of Birmingham and QPR to reach this stage of the competition.
Southampton began in the second round and secured a narrow win at Fulham on Tuesday evening.
