Pompey will face League One’s top three sides in their next three home fixtures, starting with Peterborough on Saturday.
A mouth-watering run then continues with games against Ipswich and leaders Wycombe either side of Christmas.
But Kenny Jackett’s side can approach this tricky spell with plenty of confidence on the back of six successive wins.
And with that impressive form behind them, he wants his players to approach the busy festive period with plenty of self-belief.
The Blues boss said: “The run that we’re on will give the players confidence and belief that what we’re doing is correct.
“It also tells them that the group – and it’s always about that rather than individuals – can be successful this season.
"It’s only success that will build confidence and that’s such an important thing to have in this game."
“We’ve given ourselves a chance and have to look forward now because we’ve got some big games coming up and a busy period at Christmas.
“We should be excited about that and also feel optimistic, while realising that we’ll have to work for every single point.
“If we can keep giving the players belief, then the crowd – who have been excellent – are going to get right behind them.
“Performances can be good, bad or indifferent, but the important thing is whether you get over the line.
“Ultimately, it’s only success that will build confidence and that’s such an important thing to have in this game.”
Pompey are facing a Peterborough side who have netted 40 league goals already this season and boast the top two scorers in the division.
Jackett said: “It’s as big a test as you’ll get in this league. When they get it right – as they do on many occasions – they’re a real threat.
“This will be a good barometer for us to see where we are against one of the best sides, who we all expect to do well this season.”
