Raggett’s Budding Blues Relationship

Defender discusses defensive partnership with Burgess

24 December 2019

Sean Raggett has started to form a mean partnership with Christian Burgess in the centre of Pompey’s defence.

The two have not always been able to play together, however, with the Norwich loanee suffering a selection of short-term injuries this term.

His partner in crime Burgess has remained fit, although was suspended for the disappointing defeat at Accrington earlier this month.

The duo have kept four clean sheets in 10 appearances when they have featured together at the back.

Raggett has enjoyed building the relationship and hopes they will get another chance to impress against League One leaders Wycombe on Boxing Day.

He said: “I’ve had a couple of small injury problems, but now I’m looking for another run in the team – and some good results to go with it.

"Burgey and I have had a few games together now and we’ve been able to keep some clean sheets in that time."

“The more you play alongside someone at the back, then the better that understanding is going to get.

“Burgey and I have had a few games together now and we’ve been able to keep some clean sheets in that time.

“You’re always looking for them and so it was nice to keep out the Ipswich forwards on Saturday, especially after the performance at Accrington when we weren’t good enough.

“We were expecting that to be a really tough game with the players they’ve got, but I don’t think they had too many chances.

“Now we play Wycombe – who are obviously a very good side because they’re top of the league – and we’re looking to win again.”

Raggett’s assured performance against Ipswich on Saturday certainly proved popular with supporters of his parent club.

The 25-year-old explained: “There’s a bit of a rivalry between the two teams, so it was particularly nice to get that win.

“I didn’t hear too much stick, but I don’t really take much notice – I got quite a few messages from Norwich fans on Twitter, though!”
