Christian Burgess has been named the Checkatrade Trophy Player of the Round.
The centre-back was rewarded for his fine performance in Pompey’s quarter-final victory over Peterborough last month.
He produced a vital goal-line clearance when the tie was delicately poised at 0-0 and was a rock at the back throughout the contest.
Burgess said: “We defended well to keep the clean sheet against a really good side. To score late on made it easier to hold out.
“Everyone’s playing to get to the final and focused on reaching Wembley. I’ve never played there myself and I’m sure we’d be well supported if we can beat Bury.”
Burgess collected the award after winning a public vote, seeing off competition from Bristol Rovers’ Ollie Clark, Bury’s Danny Mayor and Sunderland’s Alim Ozturk.
