Blues in Hampshire Cup action

17 February 2019

Pompey Women return to the PMC Stadium this afternoon when they face Southampton Saints in the semi-finals of the Hampshire Cup (2pm kick-off).

And Jay Sadler’s will be looking for a return to winning ways following their last-minute loss at Watford in the league seven days ago.

Goals from Shannon Albuery, Rachel Panting, Becki Bath – her first for the club – and Katie James looked to have secured a point for the Blues.

But Wales’ all-time record scorer Helen Ward netted in stoppage-time to secure a 5-4 win for the Hornets and send their opponents home empty-handed.

Pompey will now look to put that disappointment behind them and continue their defence of the Hampshire Cup.

The sides met at the same stage of last season’s competition, as Albuery and Panting struck in the second half to secure a 3-0 win in Sholing.

Sadler will have to do without the services of ineligible duo Hannah Haughton and Becki Bath, while Hannah Geer is still injured.
