Match Preview: Watford v Pompey Women

Blues back on the road in National League

9 February 2019

Pompey Women return to action for the first time in three weeks when they travel to Watford in the National League tomorrow.

And Jay Sadler will be looking for his side to maintain their encouraging form since the turn of the year.

Victories over C&K Basildon, QPR and Southampton mean the Blues have made a perfect start to 2019, with clean sheets kept in the first two league fixtures.

But they have not played since Alex Collighan – who is currently away on international duty with Northern Ireland U19s – netted the derby winner to send her side into the last four of the Hampshire Cup.

Their opponents will be without former Pompey full-back Lauren Peck and come into the contest on the back of a defeat at Manchester City.

The Super League side hit three unanswered goals past the Hornets, ensuring Armand Kavaja’s outfit exited the FA Cup.

Pompey scored twice in the reverse fixture back in September, but ended up suffering a 4-2 defeat at the PMC Stadium.

As well as Collighan, Sadler will be missing the injured Hannah Geer and loaned out Jaime Rowlands for this latest contest.

The game takes place at the Hertfordshire FA County Ground (SG6 2EN) and kicks-off at 3pm.
