It was an encouraging performance, even if the result was not quite what Pompey were looking for.
A goalless draw with second-placed Barnsley at Fratton means the gap between the two sides remains at five points.
But the performance from the hosts gives Bryn Morris belief that they can soon put together a winning run.
And with the Blues stretching their run of league stalemates to five, he feels they are not far away from a return to winning ways.
He said: “I thought we edged the game and perhaps deserved to nick the win – we had the better chances.
“The momentum was with us and I feel now that we just need that one result and can then kick on from there. It would give everyone confidence.
"I don’t think we’ll go far wrong if we produce more performances like that."
“Our performances are slowly getting better and the crowd were right behind us, so I’m sure it will come.
“It’s just frustrating that we couldn’t get that goal because we want to turn these draws into victories, although the clean sheet was a positive.
“We created a lot more opportunities on this occasion and if we can continue do that then we’re going to score goals.
“I don’t think we’ll go far wrong if we produce more performances like that and I’m sure we can go on a run.”
Morris opened his account in last Saturday’s 3-3 draw at Southend and has settled in quickly since arriving in January.
He said: “It’s always nice to get that first one and I hope that more will come. I had a good chance that I glanced just wide, but I’ll keep plugging away.
“This is an easy dressing room to settle into and I get on with all the lads. I’m sure I’ll get more confident and comfortable as I continue to play games.”
