Pompey Women Swoop For Collighan

Blues bring in midfielder

16 February 2019

Pompey Women have bolstered their midfield options with the signing of Caitlin Collighan from Southampton.

The 19-year-old progressed from the Hampshire club’s regional talent centre and appeared against the Blues in the Hampshire Cup last month.

She provided the assist for Chloe Newton to give Southampton the lead at the PMC Stadium, only for the hosts to emerge 2-1 winners.

Collighan also featured for them in last season’s final, which saw a dominant Pompey record a 5-0 victory.

She has international experience, having made three appearances for Northern Ireland’s under-19 side, with her debut coming against Portugal.

Collighan has featured 11 times for Southampton this season and found the back of the net on six occasions.

She will link up with sister Alex at the PMC Stadium, following the winger’s switch from Chichester back in November.

The latest Collighan to sign for the Blues said: “I’m excited to have joined Pompey and am looking forward to being a part of this team.

“There is great competition for places here – and I’m ready to fight for my spot in the starting 11.

Blues boss Jay Sadler added: “I’m delighted to have acquired Caitlin. She is a young, energetic player who possesses tremendous technical qualities.

“Her recent performance for Southampton in the Hampshire Cup cemented this, as she was very impressive and caused several problems.

“The addition will certainly strengthen this current group, adding depth and competition to the midfield unit.

“Our squad is shaping up very nicely, with quality all over the pitch. I’m really excited to see what this group can do in the run-in.”

You can see Pompey Women in action at the PMC Stadium tomorrow afternoon as they host Southampton Saints in the Hampshire Cup (kick-off 2pm).
