Midfielder interviewed in Sunday’s derby programme

Pride is at stake for both sets of players when the PMC Stadium hosts a south coast derby on Sunday.

And lifelong Pompey fan EJ May cannot wait to take to the pitch when they host Southampton in the quarter-finals of the Hampshire Cup.

The Fratton Park season ticket holders has found league minutes hard to come by so far this season, mostly featuring in other competitions.

But the midfielder is keen to challenge for a more regular place in the Pompey Women starting line-up.

“Competition within the squad is very high, which creates a good environment,” she says in the official matchday programme for this weekend’s cup clash.

“I think the signings made since the summer have fitted in really well and added extra depth to the team.”

May also delved into her memories of supporting the Blues and looked back on some fond Fratton memories.

She said: “I went to my first game when I was around six-years-old, and we beat Liverpool 1-0. I always remember Shaka Hislop saving a Michael Owen penalty and Fratton Park erupting!”

Also in issue nine, current Southampton player Shannon Sievwright recalls her time playing for Pompey, while there are the usual round-ups from chairman Eric Coleborn and Blues boss Jay Sadler.

The 36-page packed magazine is available for just £1 ahead of the derby fixture at the PMC Stadium, which kicks-off at 1.45pm.

Accompanied juniors (under 18s) get free entry to Sunday’s game, while tickets can be bought at the turnstiles, priced £5 for concessions (63+/unaccompanied juniors).
