Tom Naylor wants to make sure that Pompey’s lacklustre performance against Blackpool was nothing more than a blip.
The Blues looked lifeless in the first half and although there was a vast improvement after the break, they ultimately left with nothing.
Chris Long came off the bench to net the only goal of the game on his debut and deny the hosts a chance to extend their lead at the top of the table.
Naylor admits that it was a poor display, but points to Pompey’s previous good form as a reason why they can stay positive.
The midfielder said: “We couldn’t get going, it was really flat and the end product just wasn’t there on this occasion.
“I do think that we could have been a lot better and a point probably wouldn’t have been bad with the way we played.
"You want to make sure it’s just a blip and we know what we’re capable of, as do the fans."
“We’ve had a good season so far – and I think everyone can see that. We’ve got a great squad and that’s why we’re top of the table.
“This is a hard league to get out of and this just wasn’t our game, but we want to make it right in the ones we have coming up.
“You want to make sure it’s just a blip and we know what we’re capable of, as do the fans. We’ve shown it over the past few months.
“The important thing is that we’re still up where we are come the end of the season and if that’s the case, then we’ve done our job.”
Naylor does not think Pompey can use Ben Thompson’s departure as an excuse for why they lost the game.
He said: “It’s one player who’s gone back to his parent club and he did well for us, but Millwall decided to bring him back.
“We’ve got to look forward and there are players in the changing room who can fill those boots and do a job.”
