Kenny Jackett rings the changes for tonight’s Checkatrade Trophy match at Southend.

Gareth Evans – who wears the captain’s armband – is the only player to keep his place from Saturday’s dramatic FA Cup victory at Norwich.

Dan Smith makes his debut at right-back, with fellow teenager Matt Casey also in the back four alongside Christian Burgess and Brandon Haunstrup.

Academy youngster Bradley Lethbridge leads the line, with Andre Green, David Wheeler and Louis Dennis making up an exciting forward line.

Alex Bass makes his first Blues appearance of the season between the sticks, while Adam May also returns in midfield.

Pompey: Bass; Smith, Casey, Burgess, Haunstrup; Evans (c), May; Wheeler, Dennis, Green; Lethbridge
Subs: Durin, Mnoga, Clarke, Haunstrup, Read, Maloney, Lowe
