Matt Clarke has left Pompey to sign for Premier League side Brighton for an undisclosed fee.
The 22-year-old centre-back made a total of 175 appearances – scoring nine goals – during his four seasons with the Blues.
He arrived at Fratton Park on loan from Ipswich in 2015, making the switch permanent the following year in a deal that saw Adam Webster move in the opposite direction.
Clarke was an important member of the side that dramatically secured the League Two title on the final day of the 2016/17 campaign.
He appeared 60 times in all competitions last term, enjoying Wembley success in the Checkatrade Trophy final.
Clarke’s fine form for Pompey saw him voted the club’s Player of the Season in each of the past two campaigns.
Everyone at Portsmouth Football Club appreciates the role Matt has played during his time with the club.
We are pleased he has been given a deserved opportunity to test himself at the highest level and wish him well for the next stage of his career.
