League One Newcomers: MK Dons

The fifth part of our look at the latest sides to join the third tier

16 June 2019

The short history of fixtures between Pompey and MK Dons will receive a new chapter during the 2019/20 campaign.

All four of the sides’ previous meetings have taken place in League One – and the Blues are yet to taste defeat.

The club based in Milton Keynes are about to embark on their 16th campaign following the controversial relocation of Wimbledon in 2004.

LAST SEASON
MK Dons bounced straight back from the disappointment of relegation to secure automatic promotion from League Two at the first attempt.

They were level on points with Mansfield on the final day of the season, with the sides facing off to secure third spot.

And the Dons made the most of home advantage, with an early goal from David Wheeler ensuring an all-important victory.

THE MANAGER
Paul Tisdale spent 12 years in charge of Exeter before taking over at MK Dons last summer and leading them to promotion.

He began his playing career at Southampton and featured for Bristol City, Yeovil and the Grecians, also having spells in Finland and Greece.

POMPEY CONNECTIONS
David Wheeler spent the first half of last season on loan at Pompey from QPR – scoring three goals in 18 appearances.

He then moved to MK Dons in January and grabbed the promotion-securing goal against Mansfield on the final day.

Joe Mason also had a loan stint at Fratton Park last term and recently completed a permanent switch to the Dons following his release from Wolves.
