Pompey will start the 2019/20 Sky Bet League One season with a trip to Shrewsbury.
It means that summer signing James Bolton has an immediate chance to come up against his former club.
The Blues are also on the road on the final day of the campaign, when they are scheduled to face Burton in a midday kick-off.
Pompey have not begun with an away fixture since 2014/15, while you have to go back two more years to find the last time they finished away from Fratton Park.
Recently promoted Tranmere are the first visitors to the south coast (August 10), while Bury will be the last (April 25).
The festive period includes home fixtures against Ipswich just before Christmas (December 21) and Wycombe on Boxing Day.
Kenny Jackett’s side then end 2019 at MK Dons (December 29) and start 2020 at Gillingham (January 1).
There are, as usual, a couple of matches over the Easter weekend, with a visit to Rotherham on Good Friday followed by a home test with Blackpool on the Monday.
There are three evening games under the Fratton lights – all in the first few months of the season – against Coventry (August 20), Burton (September 17) and Lincoln (October 22).
Both of the Blues’ midweek away fixtures are in the second half of the campaign, with trips to Lincoln (January 28) and Coventry (February 11).
There were plenty of close encounters with Sunderland last term and another long trip to the north-east is close by.
Jackett’s men play at the Stadium of Light on August 17, with the return match at Fratton Park on February 1.
The first game against one of last season’s relegated Championship sides is at home to Rotherham on August 24, with Bolton heading south on September 28.
